October is here!!! As you might expect the (inter) net is full of pucks I need to pass on to you…

Darcy Tucker has announced his retirement. One of the smallest big men in hockey, Tucker was known for playing feisty and ferocious. You might say he was a real ‘effer’ to play against. Darren Dreger at has the story.

BTW, Tucker still has 3 years to go on his Leafs buyout. Does anybody know what effect retirement has on buyouts? Leafs still have to pay Darcy, I just wonder if still counts against the cap.

It would appear no players were picked up off waivers. That would include Ducks Brett Festerling and Danny Syvret. This summers biggest waiver name, Sheldon Souray, also went unclaimed.

Canadian Business E-zine’s Puck Money feature rates the most and least valuable by the buck. The valuations are based on last season’s salary.

Bobby Ryan is our Ducks Most Valuable by the Buck coming at 16th among the forwards. No surprise Scott Niedermayer was our most valuable D-man on the survey. Maybe a tad startling is the former captain appears 61st on this list. Jonas Hiller is rated the 17th Most Valuable by the Buck goalie in the NHL.

Last but not least, our Anaheim Ducks are the 16th best franchise. Duckies even come with a Fan Value Index of 14.6. To be honest I didn’t read beyond the lists. Mine eyes glaze over when it comes to studying the methodology.

USA Today’s Kevin Allen shares his Ten Random Thoughts Over Raisin Bran this morning.

Vinny Lecavalier sweats to re-establish himself as an elite player. St. Petersburg Times Damian Cristodero has the 411.

Former Duck Drew Miller has already won his job according to former Ducks and current Wings coach Mike Babcock. Are you detecting a trend in this story? Rod Beard of the Detroit News has the particulars.
