Ducks 4 Canucks 3, But I Knew That, LOL

If you read the pregame you know I called it. Retried Hockey Mom is telling me don’t be humble, milk it, lol. In the immortal words of that Dean Martin song, “How lucky can guy be.”

Now the goofy stuff is out of the way, let’s get down to what happened tonight.

Tonight our best players were our best players. What a gutsy performance by The Dotted Line.  There were a few times Double Gold & Silver could have let their emotions get away from them. They didn’t. They kept themselves in check and got ‘er done.

Did you believe how time Teemu Selanne had in front of Loungo? Jeez, he could have stopped for a manicure before sending that wrister top shelf.

Jonas Hiller didn’t have a great stat night. Hiller was great when it mattered most. With the score tied at 2, Hiller was outstanding in the last couple minutes of the second period. Again the third, Hiller twice stood on his ear to make saves and our Ducks turned the puck ice and capitalized at the other end.

Jonas Hiller outdueled the NHL’s hottest goaltender tonight. That won’t show up on any stat. Neither do the most important goalie stats. The ability to make key saves at key moments during the game. The ability to give your team a chance to win. In the last couple minutes of the 2nd period the Canucks took the tempo up a notch. It was Hiller and Hiller alone who held the fort until our guys could regroup, reboot and restart.

Kyle Chipchura, Matt Belesky and Dan Sexton sure looked like an opportunity line tonight. Keep those guys together and it’s only a matter of time before they start clicking.

It wasn’t a pretty game. It wasn’t a game that make coaches proud. It was an entertaining game. And it is a game wherein our guys can establish a starting point and move forward.
