Doan Suspended 3 Games

Phoenix Coyotes forward Shane Doan has been suspended for 3 games after his head shot on Ducks Dan Sexton.

“Doan delivered a late hit from the blind side to the head of an unsuspecting opponent,” NHL Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell said. “While it was fortunate that Sexton did not suffer an injury, the message should be clear that this is the type of hit that we want out of our game.”

In addition to the games, Doan will forfeit $73,387.11 in salary. The money will go to the Player’s Assistance Emergency Fund.

Doan also got away with a major boarding penalty on Cam Fowler.

Earlier this season Chicago’s Niklas Hjalmarsson was given 2fer for this hit on Buffalo’s Jason Pominville.

At this time we can only speculate as to why Doan got 3 games and Hjalmarsson 2 for very similar infractions. Colin Campbell isn’t exactly know for ‘splaining his reasoning.

Was the extra game for Doan due to the fact Hjalmarsson received a five minute major on the play? Was it because Doan was head-hunting out there?
