Pregame PostUp: Anaheim@Columbus

Still too soon for a stat pack comparison.

Difficult for Ducks fans not feel a bit sheepish around Columbus. Sergei Fedorov, Todd Marchant and Francois Beauchemin are three pretty good reasons why. As if to add insult to injury, some guy named Brett Festerling seems to have a bead on the Blue Jackets all everything Rick Nash.

Lucky for Nash, Uncle Fester is in Syracuse.

Too early to get much of a read on the BJ’s. There is of course, Rich Nash. He’s supported by a mish mash of vets other teams gave up on or couldn’t fit in under the cap, RJ Umberger, Kristen Huselius, Sammy Pahlsson, Chris Clark and Ethan Moreau. There’s Antoine Vermette, Derrick Bressard, Jakub Voracek and Nikita Filatov who’ve yet to show enough consistency.

Like our Ducks have gone through, Columbus D is beset with injuries. Mike Commodore is out. The puck movers, Anton Stralman and Kris Russell are listed as questionable.

Goaltender Steve Mason numbers are again less than stellar but probably misleading. Mason was in net in a 5-2 loss to Chicago. It was Columbus first game in 6 days following their trip to Europe.

Jackets are 2-2 in the early going with 3 of those games ending in 3-2 score all ending in regulation time.

If all this sounds like a steady, tough to play against hockey team, I suspect you are right. It’s also what everyone expected form new head coach Scot Arniel who is assisted by a couple of meat and potatoes guys in Bob Boughner and Dan Hinote.

On the other side of the puck is our split personality, Jeckyl and Hyde, home world beaters and road ravaged Anaheim Ducks.

Our Ducks are 0-3 away and 2-0-1 at home. Pretty obvious what our guys need to do.

Ironic that over the past couple seasons there has been much rancor over Randy Carlyle. Yet the team wins at home where Carlyle can most influence the game with last change.

The surest way for this team to show Randy Carlyle is irrelevant is to win on the road. I say they will beginning with this road trip.

With Stralman and Russell hurting and Commodore out, there’s just no reason why our Ducks shouldn’t bottle up the BJ’s in their own end. I’ll be very disappointed in our guys if they don’t at least have a substantial territorial advantage in this game.

Prediction: Ducks 4 Blue Jackets 1

We need to start this trip with fire, and end it just the same, the Philly and Detroit games are bonus, I would like to see them beat Detroit with physical play, and lots of goals, vs the crap they brought last game, but the Dallas game is the one they need to win.

A regulation time win in Dallas is the key to the whole trip. Yer right Buick22, a win 2nite and an RT win in Dallas is a successful trip.
