Is This Blog an Eklund Source? Plus More on the Joffrey Lupul Story

On Friday at 6:10a.m. I posted:

Flyers already have 3 goalies with NHL experience. You can’t have too many goalies though. Emery does have an advocate, assistant GM John Paddock in the Flyers front office. Paddock was Emery’s coach in Ottawa.

Can’t rule out Detroit who need a backup while Chris Osgood rehabs a owie. Buffalo, where backup Patrick Lalime has been anything but reliable, is another logical choice.

Twelve hours later, Eklund posts:

On Emery…

There may be a home soon for Emery with reports the Anaheim Ducks have interest. I have also heard Buffalo and Phoenix mentioned. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Emery inked this weekend and sent to an AHL affiliate.

This morning the gossip girl added:

On Emery…

Despite others reporting it, my research with good sources in Philly confirm NO interest in Ray Emery. Anaheim is the leader, by far, but also Detroit and the NY Islanders are in on it.

What intrigues me is the Buffalo reference. Admittedly, I made it out of common sense, nothing more. Eklund as always, claims to have some never to be identified source.

While I’m on the subject of cred, some moron recently posted on the OCR that:

some guy says:

Wow… glad to see his true colors some out. My favorite backcheck blog reading was a little write-up a few months back stating Lupes was going to retire because if injury. Just a little off on that one huh? It was great because he wrote it as if he got some secret info or something…

That report, in four parts is available in the September archives. The links are, http://bit.ly/fbnveM ; http://bit.ly/e1RZv1 ; http://bit.ly/h0Fbcq and http://bit.ly/gSqNTr Obviously I never wrote what the moron claims,Lupes was going to retire because if (sic) injury.”

Interestingly, Lupul came very close himself to verifying the facts of my report in this interview with Craig Custance of the Sporting News. Loops told Constance, “There were a couple months where I was beginning to get really worried about my career and even to take it a step further, I was starting to get worried about my life in general.”

In today’s OCR, Curtis Zupke reporting:

Lupul’s father, Craig, said he especially grateful after Joffrey’s year-long ordeal with a blood infection in his back.

Said Craig, “I’m just happy to see him playing.”

Back on December 5, 2010 as Lupul returned form his conditioning stint in Syracuse, Ryan Getzlaf said of Loops, said Ryan Getzlaf,

“He was in a situation where he didn’t know if he was going to be able to play again.”

Joffrey Lupul himself, Joffrey Lupul’s own Dad and the Captain of the team Joffrey Lupul plays on have all confirmed that Loops career was in doubt.

So once again, way2be Loops! You proved the medical experts wrong!

BTW I did send Loops this tweet:

@JLupul Is this the play when you hurt your back? http://bit.ly/f8AHlN

What’s the point? If I take from somebody else I give credit and usually a link. Gossip girls like Eklund call it an unidentified source. To some moron posting on the OCR, when I quote somebody I get the quote right.

It’s about the cred.

I do not like Emery. He is a problem. What do you think? Do we need him. Do we need a distraction in the locker room? Or am I wrong about him?

  2. BackCheck says:

My understanding is that our interest in Emery is insurance against an injury to either Hillsy or McBackup.

All the press reports suggest Ray is a different more mature guy today. They say he was a model citizen in Philly. If all that’s true and the Flyers are arguably one goalie away from the Stanley Cup why aren’t they signing him?

Depending on who you read, Emery either has to clear waivers or he doesn’t. Eric Stephens, who is a credible straight shooter, tweeted today that Emery must clear waivers.

What impact if any, would there be on Hiller? Management cleared the track to show Hiller he’s No. 1. Now they’re looking to bring in a former No. 1 in Emery. I understand he’s insurance against injury. Still Ray is looking to re-establish himself as a No. 1 goalie in the NHL.

Lastly, for a team historically rich between the pipes we have suddenly become rather thin under Bob Murray’s stewardship.

Sorry Bud, but I’ve got more questions than answers as well.

  3. silentboba says:

What I seem to recall reading was that if the Ducks sign him, they can assign him to Syracuse for a 2 week conditioning stint without him clearing waivers. If they outright assign him, then yes, he has to clear waivers. Anyone hear the NYI knocking? Or did they actually get Nabby to report finally?

Just last year, I heard we weren’t all that bad off between the pipes, with Timo Pielmeier coming up… but he’s been fairly bad in Syracuse this year. It’s good to see Levasseur putting together a few decent games lately, but it sounds like nothing has gone as planned this year at the AHL level.

    • BackCheck says:

Yeah I hear ya silentboba. Whenever a situation comes up it’s always good to remember what the org said about players a the time they were acquired. It’s a great measuring stick.

  4. buick22 says:

He signed a two way deal, that requires waivers, period. If he signed a one way he could go to SYR for 2 weeks for conditioning, then he had to come back, but no waiver.

Really unlikely he slips past the teams before us on the waiver wire..cross your fingers.

Pielmeier has been a better GK just hasn’t had much help in his losses, JP is streaky, and by that I mean he is pretty darn good, and the streaks are all bad. He loses games by having multiple softies, or mental errors, then he will come back and stand on his head.

    • BackCheck says:

Hey buick22, I see tsn.ca is reporting exactly what you posted. They must be reading you 😉

      • buick22 says:

TSN agrees with me??? oh crap, I must be spending too much time on this stuff. Where in TSN? I would like to see if it is subliminal or I really am a genius? I wrote that last part as a personal observation from the entire season of following the Crunch religiously, it is a good way to find out who is full of crap in their talent estimation, and which players just don’t progress…It has helped me learn to gauge talent differently….anybody going to Ontario to watch the Elmira Jackals play? I am gonna go one of the three days they are here…get to see what happened to Josh Brittain, and Timo may be there if Hiller is going to play in VAN.

    • silentboba says:

From what I’ve read, they haven’t had very good support defensively in Syracuse, either. That with a fairly quiet offense can’t really be helping either goalie’s confidence or sanity levels. Start feeling like they have to steal games and any mistake can (and will) cost you the game. If Emery clears waivers, I hope he’s got his scrambling skates ready to go.

  5. buick22 says:

Their defense led by Joe DiPenta includes Mitera, Clark, Jake Newton, Bickel, Festerling, Regan, Sbisa and DeGray…problem is Bickel and Festerling are gone….Newton fell out of favor (not sure if he went to Elmira) Sbisa is in ANA (obviously) DIPenta is a plus player, but he ain’t no spring chicken, Clark and Mitera are soft for their size, and have struggled, DeGray and a loaner named Guenin are filling those empty spots, but they are letting a record amounts of SOG’s through. The Goalies have been getting shelled all season, and the offense has had the rug (Sexcton, Bonino, Palmieri, Trevor Smith) pulled out from under them all year. Their lines get ravaged by call ups, (and trades) and they fall flat without them. Chemistry is tough when it is a fluid lineup, and that has been only part ofthe problem, I could go on and on, but I still have a job (and glad to have it) so I am going to bed.

  6. buick22 says:

I forgot to say: Trevor Smith + leading scorer = trade. Danny Syvret + PP QB = trade. Mirasty + top AHL enforcer = demotion (twice) he was the fan favorite, and the fan vs Ducks hatred grows by the loss. Sometimes it grows even when they win. THey have had a rocky start in SYR, and I hope they don’t alienate all the fans, because they seem like a really dedicated group, Albeit over-expectatious at times (is that a word?) They hated Columbus, and are starting to feel that way about us….Emery rumors have added some excitement, but almost too much, so I hope he dos come there, they need it.
