MadProps @ the NHL and Gary Bettman for establishing a multi-disciplinary commission to study head injuries. Brian Hayward chimed in during the Blues game that the NHL should look at equipment, especially elbow and shoulder pads. I love it when the pros agree with me. Additionally, new protocols have taken effect for in-game medical examinations, including examination by an independent medical doctor as well as a 15 minute delay in return to action, if deemed medically necessary by the doctor or the player. The Goldwater Institute has announced that it will file a legal challenge to the proposed sale of the Phoenix Coyotes to a group fronted by Chicago based investment banker, Matthew Hulsizer. The gadflies believe that a provision in the sale requiring a subsidy of $116 million is unconstitutional under Arizona law.

There are numerous other examples of corporate welfare that may violate Article 9 Section 7 of the Arizona Constitution. However, none afford the Goldwater Institute and its director Darcy Olsen a better opportunity to gain media attention.

Ducks GM Bob Murray has been appointed to the staff of Team Canada’s entry at the 2011 World Championships scheduled for April 29 through May 15 in Slovakia. While it’s a minor tournament, it is the first time Bob Murray has received such recognition by his peers. Murray joins Team Canada GM Dave Nonis and Rob Blake on the executive committee.

There are a few more bits and pieces to add to this post. Check back late afternoon/early evening for more.
