Happy T-day America

Actually we also give thanks on Canadian Thanksgiving which is the first Monday in October.  Americans occasionally ask why Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving in October instead of November. Some say it’s the shorter growing season and earlier harvest in Canada. Not true.
When the Pilgrims loaded up in the Mayflower and crossed the Atlantic in 1620 they first struck land in Labrador, well north of even Quebec. Thrilled to find land  the wayfarers came ashore and gave thanks. They stayed the night and about froze their buns off.
At first light they rowed back out to the Mayflower and headed south until they crashed into a big rock at Plymouth. Finding a comparatively warmer clime they got on their knees and again gave thanks. In those days it took about 6-7 weeks to sail from Labrador to Plymouth.
So if anybody ever asks you why Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving in October, now you know, eh 😉
