Remember Jake Gardiner? You know that sorta great student of the game bookworm type skating up at the University of Wisconsin last season? You know, the kid we drafted in the first round and tossed in a trade along with Joffrey Lupul to get Francois Beauchemin who Bob Murray traded Chris Pronger to get? Yeah that kid.

Don’t look now but he has formed one half, alongside Luke Schenn, of one of the NHL’s top shut down pairings. And oh yeah almost forgot, remember Brian Burke who brought us a Stanley Cup and Ron Wilson who used to coach our Anaheim Ducks? Well they think Jake and Luke have formed something very special that will anchor the Leafs for years to come.
You might want a bar stool nearby when you read this one.
Bob Murray is the guy Henry Samueli will trust to trade Bobby Ryan?

    Boudreau named Ducks head coach!

Now, we would need to replace our GM too.

Christmas comes early for the Ducks. Almost feel out of my chair when I heard the news on Sports Center. Feel bad for the assistants, but that’s part of the game. RC has a Golden Parachute courtesy of his multi-year contract and he’ll land on his feet. Guess the internal budget isn’t as tight as many thought.

Looking forward to Boudreau implementing some changes.

I agree – the GM should be the next to go – doubt it will happen. Maybe Murray was told if Carlyle doesn’t go you will.

My hockey friend and I were at the game – they won against a team that is struggling too – but it’s a start. I’m glad they won but they still need to make lots of improvements.

And, yes ffe, this (the game and a coaching change) was a gift. 🙂

I nodded off right after Pears PP goal and woke up to an early Christmas.

Yes bb, I had the same thought. This major decision came from above Murray. I first realized that RC may not be that smart in 2008 playoffs – first round against Dallas. Randy Carlyle played dump and chase in 95% of offensive rushes. Dallas was ready for that, with Turco moving the puck well, and one defenseman positioned deeper in their zone (coach Dave Tippett). It took Carlyle another 6 months to realize that other teams are ready for his changeless and rigid game plan. He had all the big names on the roster at that time (with Teemu and Scotty coming late) ! We started losing some good players in 2009 and 2010. And you all know the rest of the story.
