Teemu isn’t going anywhere and…

Ducks fans looking for something to cheer about this season need look no further than No. 8. Even more incredible Teemu believes these Ducks can make the playoffs. Flash told Globe & Mail reporter Eric Duhatschek, “The thing is, I still feel we can make it. This is a great league when we play well.” Selanne went on to note that past the all-star break, “there are still 30 games left. That’s a lot of hockey if you can stay hot and healthy for a while.

Okay, so what our Ducks have to win at a .721 P% rate just to reach 92 points. We’re talking going 24-9-1 the rest of the way. Actually, that’s not out of line with Ducks previous second half rushes in 2008-09 and 2010-11. Most importantly, Teemu Selanne believes these Ducks can do it.“This is almost like a very familiar situation. We are always behind the eight-ball at Christmas and we start climbing. Hopefully, this is the case too. If this type of team makes the playoffs, that confidence, that building … who knows? You never know. That’s a new world. That’s a new hockey world then.”

Worst to first in the same season? What a story.

Meanwhile, Flash sits 22nd overall among the NHL all time points leaders. Next on the list is Bret Hull (1391.) Also between Teemu and 1400 career points is Luc Robitaille (1394) and Jarri Kurri (1398.)

We are so incredibly lucky to have Teemu Selanne to cheer on. Even if all we have to remember from this season is Teemu finishing among the Top 20 points leaders of all time, for many of us that’s enough.

January has been a good month for the Ducks. They need to close out the month with a win in Phoenix to set the tone for the upcoming home stand.

It’s sobering to think that the Ducks essentially have to replicate their January run over the rest of the rest of the season if they want to make the playoffs. The Detroit game looms at the beginning of a tough 8 game Feb road trip. IMO that trip will make or break the playoff quest and determine whether the Ducks are buyers or sellers at the Trade Deadline.

In other words, ffe155 is sayin’ that if our Ducks continue to win at the present .900 P% pace that they’ll make the playoffs. A win pct. of .721(24-9-1) or better is necessary to accumulate 92 pts. and hopefully 8th seed. Not much slack in the line.

If we become buyers, where do you want to impact the team? An intimidating, shot blocking stay@home D-man might be a good place to start. If we become sellers, I don’t see any major moves until the draft. Pending UFA’s without trade clauses are Niklas Hagman, Jason Blake, Sheldon Brookbank and Dan Ellis. We can offer secondary scoring, grit and veteran backup goaltending. Could we get a 2nd round entry draft pick or more for Blake and/or Hagman? If Ducks become sellers we could get a chance to see Emerson Etem in an NHL game.

There’s a lot of hockey to sort out in the 34 games remaining.
