Can Nick Bonino produce top six stats?

Posted: 08/06/2013 by bc in Uncategorized seems to think Bones will be among our Ducks top point producers next season. Last season he registered 5 goals and 13 points in 28 games. He was tied for tops in team playoff scoring with 3 goals, two of which were GWG’s.

Bones has been a little slow on the learning curve since turning pro in 2009. In each season he has consistently improved his game and points totals. His production last season 5-8-13 in 28 GP pro rates to 16-23- 39 over a full 82 game season. Obviously, solid top nine numbers but a tad light for a top six forward.

It is his playoff performance that raised some eyebrows and inspires hope that Bones has turned the corner. Thrust back in the lineup while not fully recovered from a torn ham, Bones showed why he’s generally considered the other hardest working young Duck alongside Emerson Etem. Four points in seven games, that included clutch scoring along with 55.1% face off winning percentage is top six forward production.

Nick Bonino is growing into a solid two-way center in the mold of former Duck legend Steve Rucchin. With good health and alongside snipers like Kyle Palmieri, Emerson Etem and/or Teemu Selanne, there’s no reason to think Bones won’t produce 15-18 goals and 35-40 assists.

The Gossip Girls are listing our Ducks on the Mikhail Grabovski short list. The rumor goes current Ducks pro scout Brian Burke signed Grabovski to his last big contract. Grabovski is waiting in the wings while Teemu decides on his future. This stuff is just sooooooooo high school. Put yer all growd up pants on and think that one through. A four-time 20 goal NHL scorer is holding off on a multi-year multi-million dollar contract while another guy decides if he’s going to retire or not. And oh yeah, you might lose your job to a guy we’ve been grooming for four years but who we’re not quite sure about.

Go ahead and pencil Bones in as our second line at least through the 20-25 game quarter-pole on the 2013-14 season.

I do not see Bonino as top 6 forward. At least not right now. Actually, it would be very interesting if he was anchoring the checking line – if we ever have it again.

Interesting idea cz. Are you thinking Bones with Winnick and Cogliano? Koivu and Holland alongside two of Palmieri, Etem, Silfverberg, Selanne, Beleskey, Maroon? How do you fill that out?
